East 72nd Street Residence
When a financial executive and his wife bought this sprawling 3 bedroom apartment on the Upper East Side, the floor plan had to be modified to create a more elegant flow. The front entrance was moved to the other side of the apartment in order to create a defined bedroom suite. An empty space was re-purposed into a breakfast nook. Because they are a young couple who love to entertain, the apartment's 50 foot living room was left open to maintain a loft like feel yet subtly sectioned off to create sitting, dining and lounge areas. One bedroom was designed to accommodate the couple's three close-knit children, girls all under the age of 11, who wanted to room together. A home office was apportioned from the large master bedroom suite. The third bedroom was transformed into a playroom, which doubles as a guestroom for the couple's frequent out of town visitors. Soft, neutral color palettes were applied throughout the space in order to accommodate the clients' desire for a soothing, sophisticated apartment.
