East 74th Street Residence
Were it not for the keen eye and imagination of this retired Israeli advertising and marketing executive, she and her husband, the Chief Legal Officer of a Fortune 500 company, may not have purchased this two bedroom co-op. The apartment is located in one of the Upper East Side’s most prestigious neighborhoods, just steps away from the Whitney Museum and the shops of Madison Avenue, yet when it came on the market in mid 2012, the outdated kitchen and baths and quirky architectural lines turned away many potential buyers.
Redefining the space by straightening out non-structural ceiling beams and enlarging openings simplified the living space in the apartment, made it feel grander, and created a wonderful pied a terre for the couple with a home office.
With the wife’s impeccable taste in artwork, the walls were painted white to highlight the various paintings, photographs, prints and sculptures collected over years of traveling the world together. The white high gloss lacquer walls in the dining area mirror the high gloss cabinets in the adjacent kitchen. This simple sophisticated style continues throughout the apartment creating a sense of soothing balance and calm amid their busy social life.
